EAST DALLAS RELIABILITY PROJECT

IMPROVING RELIABILITY IN EAST DALLAS

Oncor is committed to providing safe, reliable and affordable power to more than 13 million Texans. In November, we’ll be kicking off a number of projects in East Dallas near White Rock Lake to help ensure reliable service and safety.

On Nov. 3, Oncor increased the height of some distribution lines over a section of the White Rock Lake Trail near the Boomerang Boathouse. Oncor made the improvements overnight and no tree trimming was necessary. The project was completed on Nov. 4.

To also improve service reliability, Oncor plans to trim trees and vegetation near our power lines in three areas in East Dallas starting in late November. We serve nearly 24,000 customers in these three areas.

Most outages in the area are the result of trees that have grown dangerously close to our power lines. When tree limbs come in contact with energized electric lines, they not only threaten service reliability, but they can create life-threatening hazards.

The three areas are:

  • East White Rock Lake (Zacha Dr. north to Northlake Dr.). Our crews will be trimming trees and vegetation along a distribution line. Most of the work will occur in alleys and backyards. The work is slated to begin around Nov. 29 and wrap up by Jan. 10, 2022.
  • Transmission line from N. Buckner Blvd. (Loop 12) to Lakeland Dr. This area is located several blocks south of Garland Road. Crews will trim the high brush and tree limbs from the right-of-way corridor that could impede our service. The work is scheduled to start around Dec. 13 and take about two days.
  • West White Rock Lake (Trammell Dr. south to Tokalon Dr.). Our crews last trimmed this area five years ago. Since then, new growth has put numerous tree limbs closer to a distribution line serving the area. Most of the work will occur in alleys and backyards. The work is expected to begin in January 2022.

With each project, Oncor will try to contact the area homes and businesses and leave a door card at least one week before the work begins. The work will be done by Wright Tree Service, a long-time vegetation management contractor for Oncor. We appreciate your patience as we work to improve the service we provide for your community.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Work on the first phase of the project (East White Rock Lake) is scheduled to begin Nov. 29 and wrap up by Jan. 10, 2022. The second phase from N. Buckner Blvd. (Loop 12) to Lakeland Dr. is set to start Dec. 13 and take about two days. The third phase on the west side of White Rock Lake is currently scheduled to start sometime in January 2022. Though it is our intent to work within the schedule, it is also subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances or inclement weather.

No, not at all. We work with Wright Tree Service, a professional, well-known tree service to selectively remove tree limbs and branches that are closer than 10 feet from our service lines. This helps to prevent limbs and branches from falling on our power lines and equipment during high winds and storms and causing power outages and potentially dangerous situations.

These projects should have minimal impact on the park and trail. We will mostly be working in alleys and backyards in neighborhoods near the lake. The project from N. Buckner Blvd. (Loop 12) to Lakeland Dr. is south of Garland Road and will mostly occur in a right-of-way area below and around a transmission line. The Nov. 3 project does not involve any tree trimming work.
