DALLAS (March 5, 2025) – Oncor employees have made significant progress throughout the day, resulting in the restoration of more than 315,000 outages since our peak impact of 335,000. As of Wednesday evening, there are approximately 17,000 outages remaining.
We recognize the challenges our customers have faced from being without power for an extended period of time and want to assure them that field resources and support staff are working around the clock to restore all remaining outages as soon as safely possible. As restoration in communities across our service area conclude, those resources are relocated to the hardest-hit areas to support the remaining efforts.
Restoration for most of Oncor’s service area is expected to be substantially complete tonight. Exceptions include: areas of Fort Worth, which are expected to be substantially restored Thursday morning; areas of Dallas County and the immediate surrounding cities, which are expected to be substantially restored Thursday night; and our eastern regions of Tyler and Lufkin, which are expected to be substantially restored Thursday night. These locations include pockets of outages resulting from the most significant damage.
These pockets of most heavily damaged areas are the result of the widespread nature of the severe straight-line storm winds from Tuesday morning and the continued high winds that followed later in the day and throughout the night. Many of the outages within these areas are localized and impact individual homes or businesses or small clusters in neighborhoods. They are more complex in nature and affect a smaller number of homes or businesses, instead of entire neighborhoods, making the overall restoration process longer.
Customers without power are encouraged to check their home or business electric equipment, such as the meter base or weatherhead, to make sure it has not been damaged or pulled off as the result of yesterday’s severe storm or winds. If this equipment is damaged, customers will need to contact a licensed electrician to make the necessary repairs. Oncor will not be able to safely reconnect or restore power until these repairs are completed and is unable to repair electric equipment it does not own. A city inspection may also be required before service can be restored.
Tuesday’s severe storms included heavy lightning and straight-line winds in excess of 80 mph and two EF-1 tornados in North Texas. Strong non-thunderstorm winds with gusts up to 65 mph continued throughout the day.
As storm clean up continues, we also urge customers to be cautious and avoid debris near power lines. Oncor contractors will clear limbs and damaged trees that hit or threaten to impact our equipment. Oncor will also haul away the brush leftover as a result from our teams’ work. As power restoration remains our priority, debris removal and clean-up will most likely take place after restoration is complete.
To report an outage, text OUT to 66267, call 888-313-4747, use the MyOncor app, or select “Report an Outage” located above our Storm Center map, which identifies all current outages throughout our service area.
As restoration continues, safety for Oncor employees and customers remains our top priority. Anyone who sees Oncor personnel or support staff working is asked to please give them ample space to ensure the safety of themselves and our workers. Customers are also urged to keep these important safety tips in mind:
