As of Thursday morning, less than 3,000 power outages remain from Tuesday’s severe storms and high winds and Oncor employees are continuing to work on restoring remaining customers as quickly and safely as possible. After two days of around-the-clock restoration efforts, Oncor has restored power to nearly 330,000 customers impacted by Tuesday’s severe weather. As restoration has been completed across our service area, additional resources have been relocated to the hardest hit areas to support ongoing efforts.
Restoration is focused across the pockets of outages resulting from the most significant storm and wind damage. Remaining outages in areas of Fort Worth are expected to substantially restored this morning; areas of Dallas County and the immediate surrounding cities are expected to be substantially restored tonight; and our eastern regions of Tyler and Lufkin are expected to be substantially restored tonight.
We greatly appreciate the patience of our customers throughout this restoration effort and want to assure those who are still without power that our lineworkers and support teams are fully engaged in restoring power to all homes and businesses that can safely accept it. Customers without power are encouraged to check their home or business electric equipment, such as the meter base or weatherhead, to make sure it has not been damaged or pulled off as the result of severe storm or winds.
Nearly all of the remaining outages are the result of isolated equipment damage from the severe straight-line storm winds from Tuesday morning and the continued high winds that followed later in the day and throughout the night, with customer impacts localized to individual homes or businesses or small clusters in neighborhoods. These outages are more complex in nature and affect a smaller number of homes or businesses, instead of entire neighborhoods, making the overall restoration process longer.
Tuesday’s severe storms included heavy lightning and straight-line winds in excess of 80 mph and two EF-1 tornados in North Texas. Strong non-thunderstorm winds with gusts up to 65 mph continued throughout the day and into the night.
Customers can receive updates by registering for MyOncor text alerts by texting “REG” to 66267, downloading the MyOncor App, following Oncor on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), or by calling 888.313.4747. Please note that the total number of outages reflected on the Storm Center outage map identifies all current outages throughout our service area, including non-weather events.
Keep safety top of mind: if you see a downed power line, please stay away, keep pets and others away and call 911 immediately. In addition to the downed line potentially being energized, anything touching the power line, such as a tree branch, could also be energized. Do not attempt to remove debris and tree limbs from areas near power lines. The debris may be concealing a live wire or downed power line.
