As restoration crews continue working around the clock with the support of utility partners from Texas and 11 other states, power has now been restored to more than 300,000 customers. Presently, less than 30,000 power outages remain.

Oncor anticipates having the majority of storm-related outages restored by late today, with the possibility of restoration stretching into Thursday for areas with the most extensive damage. The peak number of outages as a result of Sunday’s severe storms was more than 350,000.

Due to the considerable damage caused by fallen trees and debris, remaining outages are often the most complex and require the reconstruction of distribution equipment. This includes replacing utility poles and transformers before new power lines can be installed, and often only restores power to a handful of homes and businesses at a time.

Customers who are without power are encouraged to examine their meter base and weatherhead to ensure they have not been damaged or pulled off. If any of these have occurred, customers need to contact an electrician to make necessary repairs before Oncor can restore power. Customers may also need to obtain a city inspection.

Utility workers from Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina and South Carolina joined Oncor employees and contractors to restore power to remaining customers.

Oncor recognizes the hardships and frustrations customers have experienced due to extended outages and we appreciate our customers’ continued understanding and patience.

As restoration continues, please keep these post-storm safety tips in mind:

  • If you see a downed power line, leave the area and call 9-1-1. In addition to the downed line potentially being electrified, anything touching the power line, such as a tree branch, could also be electrified. Keep pets, children and others away from the area.
  • Do not attempt to remove debris and tree limbs from areas near power lines. The debris may be concealing a live wire or downed power line.
  • Use caution when traveling on the roadways, especially in areas with heavy debris and streetlights without power.
  • If you are experiencing an emergency event, call 911 immediately.
