Today is National Lineman Appreciation Day, and we’re giving a big Texas “Thank you” to our Oncor linemen for all they do to keep the lights on for our customers.

From providing safe and reliable power to customers, to teaching kids the importance of electrical safety, our linemen go above and beyond to power the more than 400 communities and 100 counties we serve across the Lone Star State.

Last weekend, Oncor employees worked around the clock to restore power to Alto, Texas, after multiple tornadoes swept the area, injuring several residents and destroying homes and businesses. In March, crews worked to restore power to more than 100,000 customers after a storm swept through West Texas and the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Last year, nearly 400 Oncor personnel assisted customers in California after the Camp Fire, and Hurricane Florence in North Carolina, and Hurricane Michael in Florida through our mutual partnerships. These individuals volunteered their time to travel thousands of miles away from their homes and families to restore power to customers impacted by devastating weather.

“I go on Mutual Assistance trips because it reminds me of my more than 12 years in the military,” said Gary Clark, Lineman. “During my time I was on four combat tours, helping people in need and those skills I am able to incorporate to restore power to customers after devastating storms. It is rewarding to get the lights on for people and get them back to living their lives in comfort.”

Their job just doesn’t stop there. When they aren’t turning on the lights for customers, our employees give back to the community by teaching children the importance of electrical safety. Just this year, nearly 160 employees volunteered with our Oncor Super Safe Kids presentation and Live Line Safety Demonstration, teaching more than 54,800, to date, how to be safe around electricity.

“Our employees are the heart and soul of our company,” said Keith Hull, Oncor Vice President of Distribution Operations. “The long hours they put in, and countless hours away from loved ones really shows their dedication to keeping the lights on for our customers. We are so thankful for all that they do for the state of Texas.”

From the Permian Basin in Midland and Odessa, to the piney woods of East Texas, to the Red River down to Central Texas, we are proud to work among individuals who are dedicated to providing us the safe and reliable electricity we need to power our lives. Join us in thanking a lineman today, and every day, for the work that they do for customers across the world.
