On Saturday, Sept. 11, Oncor will be celebrating 10 years of service as a platform sponsor of the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Dallas Heart Walk. Oncor has consistently ranked in the top five most charitable organizations in North Texas for the AHA, and recruited as many as 5,000 walkers in recent years to raise awareness for heart disease and stroke.
Since 2012, we’ve raised more than $6.5 million to help the AHA save lives through research, education and emergency care. As a result, the Dallas Heart Walk is now Oncor’s signature Live Well event of the year where our employees, family members and partners come together to walk as Team Oncor.
“It’s incredible to look back at where we started 10 years ago and see what we have accomplished, the traditions that have evolved and the impact that the Heart Walk has had on Oncor employees and the community,” said Heart Walk Executive Sponsor, Senior Vice President, Chief Customer Officer and Chief HR Officer Debbie Dennis. “Year after year we have united in raising awareness of heart disease, honoring survivors and loved ones, and having fun through fundraising challenges and friendly competitions. I look forward to celebrating our campaign’s success virtually this Saturday!”
Even though Oncor’s Heart Walk will be a virtual event for a second year due to COVID-19, we’re expecting another record turnout from employees and their family members.
It takes a lot of time and planning to organize each year’s campaign to make sure the walk and all the associated events run smoothly. Oncor’s Environmental Specialist Jaime Vineyard served as co-chair for this year’s Heart Walk campaign and is proud of the company’s enthusiasm for the virtual event.
“It’s been an honor to serve as co-chair for Oncor’s biggest event of the year,” said Vineyard. “It’s rewarding to see my peers and their families get excited about Living Well and staying health conscious. Our employees look forward to the Heart Walk each year, and I’m proud I was able to help make our virtual campaign come to life this year.”
Senior Designer Emmanuel Armah also served as this year’s co-chair and echoed the same message.
“The Heart Walk is important to us at Oncor because it’s part of our company culture—we come through for our communities in a big way,” said Armah. “We take a lot of pride in the legacy we’ve built and in supporting a great cause like the AHA. I’m thankful for the opportunity, and I look forward to our virtual event.”
