PLANO, Texas – (December 15, 2022) – Oncor Electric Delivery (Oncor) and Toyota Motor North America (Toyota) today announced a new collaboration to research and demonstrate the benefits of vehicle-to-grid (V2G), a technology which leverages the power of Toyota’s battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to flow energy from their battery back onto the electric grid.

This V2G pilot project will examine the interconnectivity between Toyota BEVs and utilities – providing insight into the current and future needs of Toyota and Oncor customers and the ways to reliably provide the grid infrastructure necessary to enable the rapid growth of electric vehicles. The first phase of the project will be hosted at Oncor’s System Operating Services Facility (SOSF) microgrid in Lancaster. Additional phases will include testing at residential or business locations, pursuant to all standard interconnection processes and agreements.

Through these initiatives, Oncor and Toyota will be better prepared to support the broader EV charging ecosystem in the United States. Further, these efforts will allow Toyota to elevate the customer experience for Toyota BEV customers, accelerate efforts in carbon neutrality, and provide advances in business opportunities.
