Want to be super proficient at being energy efficient? Oncor offers its customers numerous different ways to save energy. From installing solar energy to high-efficiency HVAC, Oncor provides financial incentives to homeowners, businesses, and multifamily properties through its energy efficiency programs.

Oncor pays approved service providers incentives that are passed down to the customers to help reduce the cost of their selected energy-saving improvement.

For 20 years, Oncor has helped Texans conserve energy and save money by encouraging energy efficiency improvements to their homes and businesses.

From 2019 through 2021, Oncor’s Take A Load Off, Texas programs have invested about $143 million and helped homes and businesses save 489,734 kilowatts -- enough electricity to power 61,550 homes for one year.

In January, Oncor introduced the Energy Efficiency Ideas Portal to identify and collect the latest energy-efficient technologies and new program ideas from vendors and technology companies. Ideas are evaluated for inclusion in Oncor’s Energy Efficiency portfolio. Check it out here.

Also, Oncor unveiled two new programs and revamped the Small Business program.

Here’s a little background:

Oncor Offers Energy-Savings Incentives

New Homes: If you’re a homebuilder interested in constructing ENERGY STAR® certified or Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Homes, Oncor’s New Homes program may help you lower your construction costs. Click here for more info.

Energy Concierge: Do you think your business location could use an energy efficiency upgrade? Get the process started by contacting our Energy Concierge Program. Our experts will conduct an energy audit and check your location for energy efficiency opportunities. They’ll help your team develop an Energy Efficiency Action Plan to reduce your energy costs by 5 percent or more. Our energy experts offer world-class expertise. They’ve helped hundreds of facilities and organizations across North America reduce energy costs and establish successful energy management systems. Eligible facilities are commercial, industrial, and agricultural facilities that have a peak demand of at least 500 kW within Oncor’s service area. Get more info here.

Small business: Small Business owners can cut their energy bills by working with an approved service provider to assess their existing lighting and refrigeration equipment.  Once you approve the changes, the service provider will install the new equipment at a time that works for you. You’ll pay your share, typically 30 percent of the project cost, and Oncor will pay the remaining incentive,up to 70 percent, to the service provider. Click here for more information.

Check Your Energy Efficiency

Oncor energy efficiency programs are offered to all customers as long as they are located in the Oncor service area. Customers can visit Take A Load Off, Texas to determine which program fits their needs. An easy-to-use lookup tool will help find an approved and participating service provider.

Want to get in on some of these great energy efficiency incentives? Here’s a snapshot of the program offerings.

Residential Energy Efficiency Programs

Home Energy Efficiency: If your home is too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer, it may be time for some energy upgrades. Oncor provides incentives to participating service providers for items like more attic insulation, energy-saving windows, and all-new HVAC systems. Oncor's residential programs typically run from February through November on an annual basis, subject to funds availability. Click here for more information.

Solar PV: Power your home with renewable energy– install a solar photovoltaic system – and save money each year. You must be a homeowner, and existing systems don’t qualify. Homeowners will need to install solar photovoltaic systems with an energy storage backup system to qualify for incentives. Get more information here.

Low-income Weatherization: A limited income shouldn't prevent you from saving energy. Check our website to see if your household qualifies for ENERGY STAR® appliances, new central air conditioning, insulation, and home weatherization. You'll curb your energy use with less money out of your pocket and without sacrificing comfort. These upgrades are low or no cost to residential customers. More information here.

Retail Products: If you’re an Oncor customer, you may qualify for discounts on energy-efficient products like ENERGY STAR® certified LED lightbulbs and smart thermostats. LEDs and smart thermostats can help lower your energy bill because they use less energy and create less heat. Check out the discounts here.

Residential Load Management: This program runs annually from June to September, when energy demand is unusually high. Oncor pays incentives to participating Retail Electric Providers (REPs) and third parties to recruit residential customers who own smart thermostats.  During Texas grid emergencies, participating thermostats are adjusted to reduce high summer energy demand. The residence must have a smart thermostat installed that can be controlled remotely by the participating companies in the event that demand needs to be reduced. Find out more here.

Business Energy Efficiency Programs

Basic Commercial: Oncor provides incentives to participating service providers who implement qualified efficiency measures, such as lighting and equipment upgrades, to commercial facilities. Oncor's programs typically run from January through November on an annual basis. Click here for more information.

Solar PV: Oncor provides incentives to participating service providers who install solar photovoltaic systems for commercial facilities to help offset initial investment costs. Oncor's programs typically run from January through November on an annual basis. Depending on the size, your planned unit may qualify for an incentive. Get more info here.

Load Management: From June to September, when temperatures in Texas are hot and energy demand is unusually high, businesses can use a lot of energy. Oncor pays incentives to participating service providers who work with commercial customers to offset on-peak demand. Find out more here.

We encourage Oncor’s customers to visit the Take A Load Off, Texas website to learn more about our energy programs and how to participate. We offer a variety of programs.
