Oncor and Mutual Assistance Personnel Continue Around the Clock Restoration Efforts

DALLAS (March 3, 2023) – Oncor personnel worked throughout the day to restore power to more than 40,000 additional customers since Friday morning, for a total of over 263,000 customers restored since peak outage impacts during Thursday evening’s severe storms. As of 5:30 p.m. Friday, about 27,000 customers are without power.

While significant progress has been made, Oncor recognizes the frustration and challenges faced by customers who are still without power and appreciates their patience. Oncor teams will continue working day and night with help from mutual assistance personnel from partner utilities in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.

Oncor estimates that the vast majority of customers will have their power restored by late Saturday night, with remaining restoration in the hardest hit areas occurring Sunday.

The worst of the damage and resulting outages were caused by high winds, comparable to a Category 1 hurricane, across the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. As damage assessments are completed, responding personnel must often clear downed trees and debris blocking or tangled in equipment so repairs can be made, which can include rebuilding infrastructure, setting new power poles and hanging power lines.

If you see Oncor personnel or support staff working, please give them ample space to ensure the protection of yourself and our workers. However, keep in mind that the exact location of an outage impacting your home or business may not always be immediately visible from where you’re located. It’s possible there may be damage further up the lines that deliver power to the area where the outage is experienced, which is where personnel would be working.

Safety for employees and the public remains Oncor’s number one priority. Customers are urged to keep these important safety tips in mind:

  • If you see a downed power line, please stay away, keep pets and others away and call 911 immediately. In addition to the downed line potentially being energized, anything touching the power line, such as a tree branch, could also be energized.

  • Do not attempt to remove debris and tree limbs from areas near power lines. The debris may be concealing a live wire or downed power line.

  • If you are experiencing an emergency event, call 911 immediately.

Customers can report outages and receive updates by registering for MyOncor text alerts by texting “REG” to 66267, downloading the MyOncor App, following Oncor on Facebook and Twitter, or by calling 888.313.4747.
