Three years ago, Oncor created the Super Safe Kids program, a unique and engaging education program that teaches kids how to stay safe around electricity. As part of the program, a public service announcement (PSA) featuring original animated characters and tips for being safe around electric equipment launched on PBS, ultimately airing over 500 times and reaching 16 million views by kids aged 6-11.

With such positive reception, Oncor recently reunited with Dallas-based animation studio Reel FX to create the newest “Respect the Box” PSA, which begins airing on PBS kids Feb.1.

The new PSA features Stripe the Safety Cone℠ offering an important warning about respecting the green padmount transformer boxes often found in residential areas.

“As the largest energy delivery company in Texas, we at Oncor feel especially called upon to help bridge the gap in electric safety education and ensure the next generation has the resources they need to be safe around electric equipment,” said Debbie Dennis, Senior Vice President, Chief Customer Officer and Chief HR Officer. “Our team has worked hard to blend creativity, fun and learning into this new PSA with the hope that it will continue to engage kids across our service territory and allow them to learn more about electric equipment and the essential service it provides their neighborhoods and families.”

“We are also incredibly grateful for the many teachers, education leaders and parents who have taken advantage of our Super Safe Kids program over the past three years – both in person and online – and we look forward to seeing the program’s continued development,” Dennis continued.

Since the program launch, Oncor employees and the cast of animated characters have also hit the road presenting more than 166 Super Safe Kids safety shows at schools and community events, reaching more than 85,000 kids in Oncor's metro and non-metro service territory. While in-person events remain on hold due to COVID-19, Oncor continues to offer virtual demonstrations, online resources and printable materials that teachers and parents can access to ensure electric safety remains top of mind until the traveling roadshow can safely return.
