Oncor Damage Assessment and Restoration Efforts Underway

DALLAS (March 4, 2025) – As soon as weather conditions safely allowed, Oncor employees deployed and have been working to assess damage, repair equipment and restore power to customers impacted by this morning’s severe storm system. This storm system stretched over hundreds of miles across our service area, leaving a trail of damage as it moved from west Texas through the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and into our eastern region. Heavy lightning and straight-line winds of 75-80 mph have caused significant damage in some areas, especially in North Texas.

The peak number of outages as a result of Tuesday morning’s storms was more than 335,000. Since that time, approximately 80,000 outages have been restored with work ongoing on the remaining 255,000. Oncor’s automated devices have been critical in rerouting power to non-damaged lines and to reducing the number of customers impacted by some outages.

Damage evaluation is often the first step of the restoration process. Before our line workers can make repairs to restore power, damage evaluators must assess areas of high impact and check the condition of poles, wires, transformers and more to ensure the right teams and equipment will be assigned to each outage location. This work also helps more accurately determine an estimated time of restoration. Oncor’s damage evaluation team has been fully activated and will be investigating areas by foot when needed and by air when weather and wind conditions allow.

Strong non-thunderstorm winds will continue across our service area throughout the day, with widespread wind gusts up to 50-60 mph. These wind impacts could potentially lead to additional outage impacts and may delay restoration work if conditions become too hazardous for responding lineworkers. Customers are encouraged to stay weather aware and monitor local weather alerts.

While we may not yet have a specific time for customers’ power to return, resources are working as quickly and safely as possible around the clock. Anyone who sees Oncor personnel or support staff working, is asked to please give them ample space to ensure the safety of themselves and our workers.

To report an outage, text OUT to 66267, call 888-313-4747, use the MyOncor app, or select “Report an Outage” located above the map.

As restoration continues, safety for Oncor’s employees and customers remains our top priority. Customers are urged to keep these important safety tips in mind as restoration efforts continue:

·      If you see a downed power line, please stay away, keep pets and others away and call 911 immediately. In addition to the downed line potentially being energized, anything touching the power line, such as a tree branch, could also be energized.

·      Do not attempt to remove debris and tree limbs from areas near power lines. The debris may be concealing a live wire or downed power line.

·      Use caution when traveling on the roadways, especially in areas with heavy debris and streetlights without power.

·      While prioritized during power restoration events, critical care designations do not guarantee an uninterrupted power supply, especially during severe weather. Customers who rely on electricity for life-saving medical devices should have a plan in place in case of power outages.

·      If you are experiencing an emergency event, call 911 immediately.

Customers can report outages and receive updates by registering for MyOncor text alerts by texting “REG” to 66267, downloading the MyOncor App, following Oncor on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), or by calling 888.313.4747.
