Public Participation
Effective communication and feedback from public officials, potentially affected landowners and other interested parties is fundamental to Oncor's process of planning the location and construction of new transmission lines. There are two primary stages in the transmission line siting process for interested parties to participate.
First, during Oncor’s identification and evaluation of potential alternative routes for a project, public input is welcomed (and encouraged). Oncor typically holds one or more public meetings during the route identification process where interested parties can be informed of the details of a project. Such meeting(s) also provide an opportunity for interested parties to provide Oncor and its consultants with information about the potentially impacted communities and to provide information about the project study area that may not be publicly available. In addition, Oncor also establishes a project-specific message line where interested parties can leave a message regarding the project and an Oncor representative will return the call.
Second, when Oncor files an application for approval of a project with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), parties potentially impacted by the proposed project have several ways to participate. The PUCT publishes several informative documents to assist interested parties in participating in transmission line certification proceedings.
