Oncor LED Lighting Program

General Program Overview

Oncor's LED Lighting Program offers significant incentives for commercial, non-profit, and governmental customers to upgrade parking lots, garages, and other facilities with energy-efficient LED lighting and controls. Cash incentives—based on peak-demand and annual energy savings resulting from LED installations or retrofits—are available upon the verified completion of a qualified lighting project. These incentives cover up to 80% of the project's total value, allowing customers to quickly recuperate installation costs while saving energy, reducing operating expenses, enhancing property value, and providing users with outstanding service for years to come.

All measures must be pre-approved by Oncor and installed by a qualified Service Provider (contractor).

Why Upgrade to LEDs?

LED Lamps

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) offer significant cost-savings and other advantages over conventional lamps commonly used in large outdoor and covered areas, such as parking lots and garages:

  • Energy Savings: LEDs produce more light per watt than conventional, high-intensity discharge lamps (e.g., metal halide and high-pressure sodium), so they require less energy to produce the same amount of light.

  • Operational Savings: LEDs have very long life spans (50-000k hours), which reduce the frequency of costly maintenance and replacement service.

  • Light Quality: LEDs produce a very clean, bright light. The superior color, uniformity, and visibility provided by LED lighting can improve user safety and visual comfort while enhancing property values.

  • Future Savings: LEDs are a rapidly evolving technology with a record of efficiency, performance, and longevity advancements—along with reduced manufacturing costs—every year. Amid increasing public emphasis on energy efficiency, LED lighting can minimize a major component of a facility's carbon footprint.

  • Durability: Unlike conventional lighting, LEDs are very tolerant of temperature variations, vibrations, and on/off cycles. LED fixtures can also be tightly sealed, which prevents the interior accumulation of dirt, insects, and moisture, and eliminates the need for time-consuming disassembly and cleaning.

  • Environmental: Unlike traditional lamps, LEDs contain no mercury or lead.

Incentives and Savings

Oncor provides customers with the following incentives based on the estimated on-peak demand* and annual energy savings resulting from the installation of LED lighting and control measures:

  • On-Peak Demand Savings: $250 per kW
  • Annual Energy Savings: $0.20 per kWh

* The summer on-peak period is defined as the hours from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, June through September, excluding weekends and federal holidays.

Incentives are available for up to 80% of the project's installed cost.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Commercial, governmental, non-profit, and other facilities located in Oncor's service area and receiving service from an Oncor electric meter are eligible.
  • For transmission accounts, the facility may receive a point-of-delivery transmission level of up to 68 kV. (Facilities receiving higher point-of-delivery transmission levels should enroll in Oncor's "Take A Load Off", Texas Targeted Industrial Program).
  • Customers may not participate in another Oncor energy efficiency program for the same energy savings.
  • New construction and retrofit projects are eligible.
  • Street and traffic signal lighting are ineligible.
  • Eligible projects include parking garages, parking lots, walkways, periphery lighting. Governmental facilities may qualify for indoor lighting projects.

All measures must be installed by a Service Provider that has met the eligibility requirements specified by the Oncor LED LIghting Program. Please note that Oncor does not recommend any company or contractor nor guarantee the work performed by these contractors.

Qualifying Measures

  • ENERGY STAR® qualified or eligible LED light fixtures*
  • Proximity/daylight-sensing LED lighting controls (high/low/off)

* All measures must be pre-approved by Oncor and installed by a qualified lighting contractor
