At Oncor, keeping customers safe around electric lines and equipment is a top priority. Oncor’s Lifetime of Safety program offers residents important messages and valuable tips for year-long electrical safety. Following are our top three tips to keep you, your family and friends prepared and safe:
Make a storm safety kit – Bad weather can happen any time. A storm kit is helpful when an electrical outage occurs and should include the following:
- Flashlight
- Bottled water
- Battery-powered radio
- Pen and paper
- Extra batteries
- Storm safety card (a listing of the outage number to call 888.313.4747 and the ESI ID number found on your electric bill as well as safety tips)
Create a home safety checklist – Make a list of common indoor and outdoor electrical hazards, so you’re aware of potential dangers that could be addressed before they become serious problems.
Beware of power lines – Contact with power lines can seriously injure or even kill someone. Teach your family, especially children, to beware of downed power lines. If you see a downed power line, leave the area immediately and call 911. Do not touch the power line or anything else touching it, as the line could still be energized.
